FOCUSED PRACTICE
SAT transitions practice questions
Choose a transition by the relationship between ideas: contrast, result, example, or continuation.
The idea to remember
Predict the logical relationship before looking at the answer choices. A grammatically possible transition can still give the wrong meaning.
A worked example
The route was longer. However, it was safer. The second idea offsets a drawback with an advantage, so a contrast transition fits.
A common trap
A repeated subject does not automatically mean the ideas agree. Read what the second sentence does to the first.
For a longer walkthrough, read SAT transition words: choose the relationship first.
